TCG Thermoplast Composite has been sold to Bayer MaterialScience
The shareholders of TCG Thermoplast Composite (“TCG”) have sold 100% of their shares in TCG, a technology leader specializing in the production of thermoplastic fiber composites located in Langenfeld (Nuremberg metropolitan region) to Bayer MaterialScience. Through this acquisition, Bayer MaterialScience (“Bayer”), a Bayer Group company, expands its position in the promising market for thermoplastic fiber composite applications in the automotive and IT end markets. Both sides agreed not to disclose further transaction details.
The acquisition strengthens Bayer’s product portfolio and thereby further improves its leading position in these markets. It is Bayers’ intention to market composites from continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastics (composites). This is a new class of exceptionally thin and lightweight materials offering superior performance compared to existing solutions such as aluminum. The acquisition of TCG allows Bayer to access innovative technological know-how, as well as important patents and facilities.
Dr. Herbert Börger and Ingolf Knaup, managing partners of TCG, see great benefits for the company in the partnership with Bayer. TCG should be able to realize much more quickly a truly industrial manufacturing and broad-based market introduction of unidirectional thermoplastic advanced composites. The transaction therefore represents the next logical step in TCG’s successful development.
