LDC has sold NES Engineering Innovation to Ansaldo Nucleare
Lincoln International (“Lincoln”), a leading global mid-market investment bank, has announced that Nuclear Engineering Services (“NES”), the U.K.’s largest independent turnkey provider of nuclear engineering, manufacturing and services, has been sold to Ansaldo Nucleare, a subsidiary of Italy’s Ansaldo Energia.
NES designs and manufactures solutions for some of the most complex nuclear engineering challenges anywhere in the world. In decommissioning, NES builds critical machinery for the safe retrieval of intermediate level nuclear waste to facilitate treatment and storage. In nuclear defence, NES plays an important role in national security through maintenance of the U.K.’s current nuclear submarine fleet and development of future test facilities. For current nuclear fleet operations, NES designs, manufactures and installs equipment in support of reactor operation along with the supply of spares as an original equipment manufacturer. For the nuclear new build market, NES offers a complete turnkey solution for complex equipment needed for the construction and operation of future nuclear reactors.
Ansaldo Nucleare is based in Italy and specialises in nuclear component design and engineering services for clients in the new power plant construction, decommissioning and waste management sectors. They have established an international reputation, with over 50 years’ nuclear experience and are currently successfully delivering projects in Europe and South America.
Tony Eckford, NES’ Chairman, said, “Given the unique characteristics of the nuclear industry, Lincoln had to help NES navigate many complex transaction issues to ensure a successful sale. Their expert assistance was critical to being able to complete this strategic transaction with an overseas buyer.”
Chris Hurley, Chief Executive of LDC, commented, “Lincoln successfully accessed a wide range of international trade buyers for NES and carefully handled the interaction with key stakeholders in the process. We are very grateful for their help delivering a successful outcome of this investment.”
Lincoln acted as the exclusive financial advisor of NES and its shareholders, assisting with preparing marketing materials, advising on negotiations, coordinating due diligence, reviewing documentation and coordinating all steps until the closing of the transaction.
