Emsa has been sold to French Groupe SEB
Following the sales of well-known branded companies like alfi, Garpa, Flex or erpo, Lincoln International has successfully accompanied another sale of a top consumer goods brand, selling Emsa GmbH (“Emsa“), the specialist for household and garden products based in Emsdetten, to French Groupe SEB. The selling family shareholders and the buyer have recently announced that they have signed a binding agreement. The transaction is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities in Germany and Austria and their approvals are expected shortly.
Emsa was established in 1949 and completely repositioned and reorganized in 2007 after changes in the shareholder structure and management team which focused the company on innovation. Today, Emsa employs some 750 people in Emsdetten, China and Vietnam and has resurged as one of the best-known brands in the kitchen, household and garden segments in German-speaking countries. During the last five years, the company launched more than 1,700 new products generating strong growth with net sales reaching Euro 92 million in 2015. With Groupe SEB, Emsa will gain a strong partner, which offers the opportunity to tap its full potential and grow its business with insulating products, food storage containers and other household and garden products internationally.
Groupe SEB is a leading producer of small domestic appliances offered under various national and international brands. In addition to kitchen and household appliances sold under brands like Rowenta, Krups, Moulinex or Tefal, the group also markets cookware like pots and pans, generating net revenues of Euro 4.8 billion last year. The acquisition of EMSA constitutes a strong strategic advantage for the group’s continued development in the buoyant market of kitchen utensils and accessories. The combination of EMSA’s expertise and Groupe SEB’s worldwide presence will enable the group to roll out products internationally and to extend the range, which will boost sales growth.
