Deutsche Post DHL Group has sold Greenplan GmbH to management
Greenplan
Greenplan has its origin in a research co-operation between Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) Group, world-leading logistics company, and the Mathematical Institute of the University of Bonn in 2016. Initially, Greenplan was a research project to optimize transportation and route planning for DPDHL Group. Since then, Greenplan successfully expanded its customer base and further developed its solution while wining external blue-chip clients for its algorithm. The divestment will further accelerate the successful development of Greenplan.
The Deal
With this transaction, DPDHL Group is following its commitment to focus on its core business of transportation and logistics services. Greenplan’s management team will now lead the global scale-up of the business and further development of the algorithm. DPDHL Group is looking forward to remaining an important long-term customer of Greenplan.
Our Perspective
Dirk Engelmann, Managing Director in Lincoln International’s Business Services Group and logistics and transportation sector in Germany, commented, “I am convinced that Greenplan faces excellent long-term growth perspectives under the ownership of its senior management. Greenplan addresses long-term, mega-trends given that the optimization of transport asset utilization and improvement of route planning contribute to both increased supply chain efficiency and robustness as well as reduction of the carbon footprint by lowering driven kilometers. In addition, Greenplan will benefit from being an independent vendor in marketing its cutting-edge algorithm to forwarders and operators of large fleets worldwide while retaining its former parent DPDHL Group as a blue-chip customer reference.”
Lincoln International was instrumental in structuring and implementing the transaction, thereby securing an attractive outcome for all stakeholders.
