(“BPE”) and Management in the sale of Domilens Beteiligungs GmbH (“Domilens”) to Polytech Ophthalmologie Beteiligungs GmbH, majority-owned by private equity firm Odewald KMU Gesellschaft fr Beteiligungen mbH (“Odewald KMU”)
Domilens and Polytech Group are two dynamic companies with excellent market position, strong brand names and complementary product offerings. Both companies will benefit significantly from the newly formed partnership. The from BPE installed MBI candidate and previous managing director of Domilens, Mr Andreas von Loessl, will remain minority shareholder and will jointly manage the group together with the former managing directors of Polytech, Mr Frank Skowronek and Dr. Walter Schwab.
Domilens, which was founded in Hamburg in 1987, is the leading independent medtech distributor in the German ophthalmic surgery sector and innovative service provider in all matters concerning an ophthalmological practice or clinic. The product portfolio encompasses inter alia intraocular lenses, phaco machines, viscosurgical devices and saline solutions. As full-service provider in the ophthalmic surgery sector, Domilens covers all requirements of ophthalmic surgeons for more than 25 years. This includes both a comprehensive product range for cataract and refractive surgery including state-of-the-art OP equipment as well as products for vitrectomy and glaucoma surgery. A broad and innovative range of services combined with highest levels of availability and service quality support the surgeon in being successful. In March 2010, BPE acquired Domilens from listed STAAR Surgical, Monrovia (CA), USA, in the form of a combined management buyout/-in and had a lasting effect on the long-term positioning as leading distributor and service provider in the eye surgery segment.
With this transaction, the future Polytech-Domilens Group becomes the largest manufacturer independent distributor and service provider in the European ophthalmic surgery sector and realizes an important strategic step in the development of both companies. One of the joint aims is to develop and enhance the product and service offering in order to seize the opportunities for further growth in Germany and Europe. Odewald KMU will continue to pursue its strategy of exploiting buy-and-build opportunities.
