Panasonic Corporation has acquired TeraDiode
Lincoln International (“Lincoln”), a leading global mid-market investment bank, is pleased to announce that Panasonic Corporation (“Panasonic”) has executed an agreement on January 2, 2017, to acquire all of the shares of TeraDiode, Inc. (“TeraDiode”), a global supplier of high power direct diode lasers (“DDL”) for industrial use, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Panasonic. TeraDiode is headquartered in Massachusetts, U.S.
In the laser processing field, which Panasonic serves through its B2B solutions business unit, high-precision and high-quality laser processing technology has become increasingly important in various end markets, especially in the automotive industry. High-power DDL technology is crucial to meeting this level of precision, and demand for DDL is expected to show robust growth globally. Panasonic expects its DDL business to be one of its core growth areas.
TeraDiode’s high-power DDL, with its proprietary wavelength integration capabilities, attracts attention as a next generation laser technology. In fact, Panasonic and TeraDiode had already begun a strategic alliance in 2013.
As a result of this acquisition, TeraDiode’s high-power DDL technology and related know-how will combine with Panasonic’s various technologies and broad network to create profound synergies and accelerate the growth of Panasonic’s B2B business.
Lincoln acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Panasonic.
