Align Capital Partners has sold SEAM Group to ABB
SEAM Group
Headquartered in Beachwood, Ohio, SEAM Group provides safety, reliability and maintenance solutions that optimize energized asset performance for some of the world’s largest companies. The company partners with over 800 clients to align safety and uptime at more than 3,000 sites across the globe. Inspecting over one million assets annually, SEAM Group offers a proven platform that combines strategic advisory, custom training, advanced technology and actionable data management to position customers for success. SEAM Group offers expertise in low- and medium-voltage electrified assets for commercial properties, logistics and distribution, data centers, healthcare, manufacturing and renewables, including the rapidly evolving electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure market.
The Deal
Align Capital Partners’ (ACP’s) initial investment in SEAM Group came in 2017. During the partnership, SEAM Group completed three add-on acquisitions and fueled organic growth by expanding internal talent, developing a proprietary technology platform, investing in operating systems and supporting new sales and marketing strategies. As a result, SEAM Group transitioned from a small team focused primarily on safety training and inspection services, to one of the country’s largest providers of energized asset management and advisory services helping customers navigate energy transition initiatives.
Having achieved its investment objectives, ACP turned to Lincoln International to find SEAM Group’s next partner. After a comprehensive marketing process, ABB emerged as the ideal strategic partner. By joining ABB’s electrification services division, SEAM Group will bolster the unit’s service offering to support utility, industrial and commercial customers in their efforts to improve safety and operational performance and reach critical sustainability targets by securing asset availability, energy optimization and improved productivity.
Colin Duncan, SEAM Group Chief Executive Officer, commented, “By joining forces, we unlock exciting synergies: shared client focus, a united drive for sustainability and complementary service portfolios. Together, we will deliver new levels of operational performance while supporting customers in their energy transition. The depth of talent and market expertise that exists within SEAM Group today positions us as the right business to support ABB’s growing focus on electrification services in the U.S.”
Our Perspective
Saurin Mehta, Lincoln International Managing Director who led the transaction, commented, “We continue to see strong interest in companies providing mission-critical, asset-reliability services with regulatory-driven demand. Market growth is driven by favorable industry dynamics, including aging infrastructure, a growing installed base of electrified assets, increasing safety and compliance regulations, renewables infrastructure buildout and early stages of energy transition and distributed power initiatives. These trends collectively underscore non-discretionary demand for high-quality market leaders like SEAM Group. ABB is a great home for SEAM Group and will help further accelerate the company’s growth trajectory.”
